The Upton Project Manager, Craig Hutchison and Site Agent, Keith Lawman at the Lagan Homes Upton Site have been working with Construction Futures to support Northamptons local students and young people to gain on site work experience.
Construction Futures is a training scheme originally set up within West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC) as the solution to students who are working towards becoming fully qualified and find it difficult to gain employment without any previous work experience. Craig stated “I think it’s great that we have a good relationship with WNDC and Construction Futures as this contributes to the Construction Industry of the future”.
The experience gained has varied from scaffolding, brick laying and other trades as well as site assistance, mentoring and management.
So far on the site work experience was successfully given to seven students from Northampton College and Moulton College along with three other young people, and a group of exchange students. In addition one student electrician is now working on the site with a student plumber due to start next week.
As a result one of the students has managed to secure work and one of the young people has become a permanent employee of Lagan Homes.
Keith Lawman said “There are further opportunities for trainees who are looking for work experience on site”
